The example of Dunedin and Christchurch merchants in asking that alterations in the tariff be postponed till January was followed by the Auckland Importers' Association, to whom the Hon. Mr McGowan has replied in the following terse manner:—"As a business man you ought, to know what you ask is impossible. What would you have done provided there had been an increase of duty?"
