APPEAL FOR POSTPONEMENT.

A meeting of wholesale grocers was held at three o'clock yesterday afternoon .in the Chamber of Commerce to consider the effects of the amended Customs tariff now in forcer After the matter had been discussed the following message was forwarded' to the Eight Hon. R. J. Seddon:—The following resolution was passed at a meeting, of wholesale grocers held to-day at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce: 'That in consequence*of the heavy loss by having large stocks of duty paid goods, now reduced by the.new tariff, the Government be respectfully asked to collect under the old tariff until January next thus giving traders an opportunity to work off the duty paid stocks." A copy of this resolution was also forwarded to the Hon. Mr McGowan, accompanied with a, request that he would kindly interest himself in the matter. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be held at 2.30 o'clock to-morrow to consider the whole matter.
