BOMBARDMENT OF PEKIN LASTED ONE DAY. AN OBSTINATE RESIST- ...■■ ■;: r ANCE.-, ..,..., HONGKONG, August 18. The bombardment of Pekin lasted one day. ' The Japanese and Russians advanced along the northern side of the Tungkchau Canal, and .the British and Americans along the south side.
The Japanese exploded the Cheoyang and Tonghi gates on the eastern ■ side •of the Tartar city, by which they entered.
• The British and Americans entered by the Longpien gate of the Chinese city.
