THAMES, Saturday.
The Thames Fire- Brigade gave almost successful concert in St. George'si Hall last night, when a very good programme was" presented to a large audience. At the conclusion of the concert a dance was held, which was kept up to an early hour.
Read's tender for supplying timber for repairing the Kopti Wharf has been accepted by the Harbour Board. '% ■■
Trooper Newdick, from South Africa, arrives at the Thames this evening by train at' 6.45. He "will be met at the station by the Reception Committee, and afterwards the volunteers, fire brigade, naval band, Hauraki band and Waihi band will form a procession through the town, to Shortland, escorting Trooper Newdick. Later In the evening a smoke concert will be held In the Miners' Union Hall, when the returned trooper will be the guest of the evening. During the evening the Royal Humane Societyl^,certificates for saving life will be presented to J. W. Ryan and A. Hearling. A special train brings'up country friends to assist In the reception.
