The -Qllowing interesting details concerning .operations at the seat of war are from Cape and Natal papers up to July 11 to hand to-day:— ADVENTUKOUS SCOUTS. i .■-.■■: AN EXCITING PATROL.
DOORNPONTEIN, July 2.—(Received by Runner at .Winburg, July 3.)—(Reuterfs Special Service.)— Driscoll's Scouts, attached to General Rundle's division, returned here on the 30th ultimo from a sixty miles' patrol■ • in- the-district" of Winburg. Captain Driscoll reports having located a force of 500 to 600 Boers, with at least (two giths,' upon Doornberg, which commands the main road from Winburg to Senekal, and also threatens the railway. About forty of the enemy emerged from their position, endeavouring to entice the Scouts into an engagement, whilst two strong parties were detached on either flank for the purpose of entrapping the Scouts. surely along a donga, exchanging shots continuously with the •' frontparty, until he reached a farmhouse six miles from Doornberg, where he halted and remained for the night. The Boers surrounded the house during the night, but retired without attacking. The Scouts sustained no casualties.
The much-needed convoy arrived on Sunday, escorted by the Scots Guards and Derbyshire Yeomanry, from Winburg. The Boers made no attempt to intercept them. —-
