THE DISPOSAL OF DUST REFUSE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—The question of the dust refuse disposal remaining "still in an unsatisfactory state, may ■ I be permitted to draw attention to the improved methods adapted by two of the large London parishes, viz., St. Pancras and St. Leonard's, Shoreditch. These places, instead of allowing the household dust to accumulate; as formerly, now, by the aid of destructors connected with their electric works, which provide not only the parish lighting and heating of baths, but also supply private firms with electric power, produced by the agency of the heat generated by the combustion' of the dust refuse, turn a former expensive burden into a profitable commodity. Would not our intended electric tram construction offer a fitting opportunity for the application of this system of utll. ising the household dust to the benefit of all concerned?—l am, etc., ) W. E. BROWNE,
Epsom.
