FOUND DROWNED.
This, morning a sailor ■on the s.s. ?akeha, lying at the Queen-street wharf, while engaged painting the ship, saw a body jammed under : a stringer. He at ojice gave information to Consto-hle McDonnell, who recovered the body and removed it to tha morgue. The body is believed to be that of a man named Williams, a gumdigger, but up to the time we weiit tc press it had not been' fully identified; , The body is that of a man about 30 years of age, sft sin high, stout build, full round face, blaclc hair, moustache and side levers: The cheeks and. chin/ had been.recently shaved. The body was dressed in a light grey tweed suit, dark check Crimean shirt, nearly, new, sewn lace-up boots, blue merino . socks altid knitted drawers; The deceased evidently had an injury to his right leg1 below'the knee, upon which a narrow canvas bandage was tied. In the pockets was found a half return ticket, Auckland to Helensville, ahd < a return ticket by steamer froln Dar-> gaville to Helensville, which appear to be dated 1/8/1900, and to have been used on one journey. -There were nd; marks of violence on the body. ; ' '
Sergeant- Gordon communicated the facts to Dr. lie Arthur (Coroner), who decided to defer holding the inquest until 10 a.m. to-morrow, to enable the police to make inquiries as to the identity of the deceased. - j.
