The Sydney "Morning Herald," commenting on Mr Spreckels' scheme, after dealing with the ' claims of the Union Steamship Company for consideration, says: "There are almost as many complications about the question as about the rival cable scheme. It will, of course, always be open to the two existing trans-Pacific Companies to amalgamate and give us an improved rival service to Vancouver, keeping our own trade under our own flag. This is part of the question to be considered." ;.
