SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
GRAFTON.
' The ordinary meeting of the Grafton School Committee was held last evening. The/principal business was the consideration^ of the Inspector's report on the annual examination of the school, which was aB follows:—Standard6, present 31, passed 25; Standard 5, present 55, passed 45; Standard 4, present 72, passed 53; Standard 3, present 02, passed S3; Standard 2, present 83, passed 77; Standard 1, present 49, passed 47. Total present, 382; total passed, 330. Preparatory classes, 211: total, 593.
Notes on Passes in Standards 1 to 5.— Satisfactory; discretion has been displayed In determining the passes in Classes 1 to 5. Reading in Standards 5 and 3, spelling In Standards 2 and 1, and arithmetic In Standards 8 and 1 were good; whilst writing in Standard 5 was very satisfactory. In the other subjects satisfactory work was done throughout. The quality of the work dome in the ppss subjects as revealed by the examination was very satisfactory. The primer classes have been well aaid skilfully taught, and are making very satisfactory progress, the pupils In the several divisions being well advanced and having a, good grasp of the work. The tone, order, and discipline in all classes save Standard 4 are good, and the manners and behaviour of the children very good. Class subjects: Satisfactory except In Standard 4, In which grammar is moderate and science, object lessons, etc., almost poor. History and science good In Standard 6.—(Slgiued) James Grlerson, E. K. Mulgaii. The Chairman (Mr S. I. Clarke) again draw attention to the necessity for cleaning and colouring the Interior of the older portion of the 'school, in the interests of the health of the pupils; and It was resolved to again ask the Board to do this very needful work, the committee agreeing to pay a proportion of the cost. Reference was made to supposed irregularities In connection with the third year pupil teachers' examination on the subject of music, audit was resolved to bring the matter wnder the notice of the Board ot Education. ■ . Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £6 12/fc .'. .
