LONDON, August 4. | It is officially reported that Genejal lan Hamilton's mounted division, now marching on Rustenburg, has ejected the enemy fromMegalies Mountains, 15 miles east of the besieged town. A number of prisoners were taken during the fighting. One Boer had a sporting rifle and. was using soft-nosed bullets.
Forty-one of the British, were wounded, chiefly belonging to the Berkshire Regiment.
General French's right now rests on the Komati River, just west of Machadodorp, and 100 miles east of Pretoria, where the railway is intact.
Reuters correspondent states thati General Botha and Mr Kruger have issued a proclamation promising to compensate the burghers remaining in the field il the British injure their farms.
