PUKEKOHE.
The Steele-Payne Bellringer Company gave one of their popular entertainments In the Masonic Hall on the 26th inst., to a full house. A ploughing match under the ausprces of the Franklin Agricultural Society was held on Mr R. Wright's farm at Bucldand on Saturday. From some unexplained cause little interest was taken in the competition, only five competitors being present, and about SO visitors, Messrs F. Brown, Robt. Wallace and W. Westney being judges. Class 1: S.F. plough, English pattern, one competitor—W. J. Somerville, first prize. Class 2: S.F. ploughs, American pattern, open to those who have not won « first prize before, two competitors—R. Wright (with John Deere plough), first prize; R. F. Wilkinson (with Massey-Harris plough), second prize. Class 3: S.F. plough, American pattern, open to all comers, two competi-tors-WVm. Ballard (with New Model Massey-Harris plough), first prize, aFso championship and prize for nest ridge and finish; Edward King- (with Advanco plough), second prize. Much interest was taken in the exhibition of work done by the use of Mr G. Ballard's patent subsoller, the judges expressing themselves satisfied with the implement. The subsoiler can be attached to any plough, and set to any depth required. It is the best subsoiler that has been exhibited at any of the local ploughing matches.
