OHINEMURI V. PIAKO.
A WIN FOX OHINEMUKI
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
PAEROA, Saturday. The above inter-unlon match, the first ever played between these two unions, too* place this afternoon at Paeroa, in the presence of a fair number of spectators, ana resulted In a win for Ohinemurl by 14 points to nil. Plako were without the services of Bell and Dansey, which greatly weakened their bucks; but their forwards P^yed a good up-hill game. McLean captained^ Ohinemuri, and Lewis Plako, whilst Mi R. Jones gave every satisfaction as referee. During the first spell no scoring was done. ■'-The game was confined chiefly to the for--wards, and when the backs of either side got the ball they made a mess with it. Shortly after the commencement or the second spell, however, W., Moore picked up about half-way and made a strong run to near the line, where he P"8^! to Cock, ™ the latter scored without difficulty. Moore took the kick, and landed a nice goal. Ohinemurl now went in for combined passing, but several good chances were spoil- by bad taking by McLean. From a Hne-out in Plako's 25 Llpsey got the ball and kicked, but the ball struck a player, rebounded over the line, and Moore by smart folldwing-up scored. The kick at goal by McLean was a good but futile attempt. Almost Immediately from the kick-out Moore made another good run, and passed neatly out to • Roekley, who scored. Shaw took the kick, .but failed. Shortly after, Comes . picked up and ran over, scoring Obinemuii's fdurtn ■;try; but Shaw agin failed to convert.and the game ended: Ohinemurl 14, Plako nil.
As an exhibition of football, the game was simply wretched. Shaw, at full for Ohinemuri, played well, kicking splendidly and tackling, the only twice he had to, very well. McLean at centre three-quarter was completely off, and so was Johnson. W. Moore played a splendid game at liveeighths, passing well and making a number of good openings, and also tackling well. llocKley was very poor in the tirst spell, but improved in the second. Amongst the forwards none shone except perhaps H. Sorensen. For Piako, Leiinurd made several slashing runs, but bad no idea of passing. L'psey kicked well, and also made several good runs, but was evidently out of condition. Lewis, the full-back, had the misfortune to get Ills back hurt, and had to retire, his place being taken by Gregory. The forward division played well, especially on the line, but In packed scrums lost the ball almost every time. They were greatly handicapped by a weak back division. Powell, Aruwa, Bos well, and Lennard were most noticeable. The game was a most friendly one, and It is to be hoped the two teams will often meet in friendly rivalry.
