A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE HOSPITAL.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I have a complaint to make about the Hospital, and a serious one it is too. Last 15th of April a Maori child was admitted to that institution to be treated for deformed feet, the Hon. Jas. Carroll having- g-uaranteed the expenses. Instead 6i -operating the doctor put the feet in plaster of Paris, and told the mother to go home and come back in a fortnight. Now, anyone with the most meagre knowledge of surgery knows that with a child of seven months, this remedy is no good. When the mother went back at the end of the time specified, she was put off with the excuse that the doctor was "too busy." This has occurred more than once. Such conduct is unworthy of a Christian institution. Are we to presume that the Hospital authorities consider that a. Maori baby is not of the same flesh and blood as the pakeha? Hoping that .tome day a little Christian kindliness will percolate through the board of management, —I am, etc.,
THOMAS .TrSTORER
[We may point out that the use of a plaster of Paris cast in such cases is in accordance with present day practice, and possibly the complaint of neglect arises out of the doctor briefly stating that the cast would require to be left on longer.—Ed. E.S.]
