The Premier has received a tClegraia from the Queensland Premier stating that as a majority of the members of both Queensland Houses of Parliamentapprove of Mr Chamberlain's original, amendments in the special' clause o£ the Commonwealth Bill, and, in view of-the Imperial Government: deciding, to adhere to the present aWndments,; the Queensland Government will-der. mand insertion: of a clause requiring; consent of-the local Parliament before the measure becomes operative inthat colony. ' " ■; 7
Mr McLean replied regretting thai adoption of a course which might de-. lay the passage of the Bill. ~* Sir John Forrest replied to Mr.MeLean that he considered two months only a reasonable period to prepare for the federal referendum.
