SHOOTING FATALITY.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
A fatal shooting Occident occurred yesterday at Lake Ellesmere. Messrs W. Sheltbn, butcher, of Sydenham, a"hd A. E. Cook Avere duck-shaoting from cylinders about 2 yards apart. At dusk they arranged to shoot in turn. A bird approached breast on, but swerved towards Cook's cylinder, and, as it showed broadside, Shelton fired. As Shelton's gun went off Cook jumped up to a standing position, and then dropped suddenly. Shelton went to his assistance and found him bleeding1 profusely from the head, a charge of duck-shot having evidently hit him. .Shelton procured assistance, and took the unfortunate man to Lincoln, but Cook died on the way. Shelton brought the body to the "police station, and gave himself up. Cook was 34 years old, and a married man with one child. He was an enthusiastic supporter of athletics, and had represented the province for three years in football matches. . '
Skelton was brought up in the Police Court this morning, charged with shooting Cook, and was remanded. After the inquest he was released on his own surety. <
