PAEROA v. KARANGAHAKE.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
PAEROA, this, day
The return football match, 'Paeroa versus Karaugahake, was played here on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the latter by 9 points to nil. Neither (earn had their lull strength, Paeroa being without the services of Bradley, Coote, and Hobbs, whilst • Karangahake missed McGuire and White. The game throughout was of an even nature, though Karangahake had all the best of the scrum work, but appeared to play without combination in the open. Their first try was gained by Smith, who got past the Paeroa backs and simply ran in; but the second try by Houghton, Karangahake's clever half, ■was a really good piece of play. Both these tries were got in the first spell. In the second half the game was much 'more interesting, some good back'play being shown on both sides. Moore, who was playing a splendid five-eighths game for Paeroa, got away with the ball from the Karangahake 25, and crossed the goal l|i,ne, falling on the ball, but the referee awarded a force down. Soon after, in Paeroa's territory, Houghton passed to . Rqekley, who made i\ magnificent take, and when near the line passed out to Johnston, who easily scored. The match thus ended 9 points to nil in favour of Karangahake. The game was the best played here this season, and was contested in a most friendly manner, as football should be played. Considerable feeling has existed in years past between these two clubs, but both this season's matches have demonstrated that this has died out. For Karangahake, Dean, at full, played well, and McLean and Johnston, at threequarters, were safe; whilst Eockley and Houghton at five-eighths and half respectively, played well. Amongst the forwards, Harrison. Meagher, and Reisterer and Doug-las were best. For Paeroa, Clarkin. L. Shaw, W. Moore and Fathers, in the backs, and Radford and Sorrensen, in the forward division, were best. Mr Surman, of Auckland, was referee. • .
