HUNTLY NOTES.
Mr J. Moren, who has been in busi>ness here for the past seventeen years, has disposed of his butchery to Messrs Waring and Horwood. In Mr Moren Huntly loses a "live" and energetic map as well as a good and respected citizen. His genial presence will be missed at athletic gatherings and on the cricket field. Besides be- ! ing an enthusiastic sport Mr Moren j was an ardent politician. He takes | with Sim the sympathy and best wishes of all. The members of Mr Dawson's Juvenile Lodge of Good Templars thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the "coffee supper" which took place in the district school on Monday evening. With songs, recitations and routine work the evening passed all too quickly, the meeting concluding with a vote of thanks to Mr Dawson, who works unsparingly to promote the welfare of the lodge. Many of the local sports were after the pheasants on May Ist. No large bags were got, the birds' in this neighbourhood being reported to be scarce and very wild. In order to resuscitate the football club, which in former years was one ; of the strongest in the district, a : meeting was held on Monday even- j ing in Mr Harris' hotel, Mr A. M. j Labatt presiding over a large attend- i ance. Mr Norman Hill was appointed secretary and treasurer, Mr Lang, | M.H.T?., patron, and Capt. E. R. Ralph j president, the selection of a captain | being postponed until after the first j practice, which is dated for sth May. It was resolved to join the Waikato Union, Messrs Hall and Housley being appointed delegates. Selection and working committees were also elected. The meeting was most enthusiastic, and there, is every prospect of a successful and exciting season.
