PRECAUTIONS AT TAHITI.
The Government of Tahiti are enforcing very strict measures with their quarantine regulations. All cargo must be discharged in quarantine. Rice and grain of all sorts must be shot out, shovelled over for two or three days and rebagged. All packages having s.traw packing must be destroyed, and natives handling cargo placed in quarantine twelve days. Papeete is the only port open to shipping in the Soeie'tyi Iwamatu, or Marquesas Islands. Therefore, vessels have to report at Papeete and get permission to discharge elsewhere..
Oranges for export have to be lightered to the steamers, as no vessel is allowed at the wharf to load or discharge.
Every local vessel arriving in Papeete from amongst the groups has to anchor and pass Government inspection before landing. Even the fishing boats are subjected to this.
