DEPARTURE OF AUCRLANO MEN.
The second detachment. (2 ouMeers and 2:> men) of Auckland volunteers to join ihe Fifth Contingent of Mounted Infantry for South Africa loft Onehungu at two o'clock this afternoon lor New Plymouth in the s.s. Gnirloeh, en route to Wellington. The detachment consisted of Lieut. J. T. Bosworth (late of the "A" Hattery of Artillery), in charge, Lieut. Cui-vie, Sergeant Badley. Troopers .1. Porter1, 12. Woodward, 11. Conn, \V. Urowne. G. Armor, W. Henderson, X. McGruer, F, Fethehell. J. Taylor. 10. Fahey, C. Moller, T. Finch, C. Hailsant." K. Bradburn. W. Lincoln. D. Byrno. IT. Bray. 11. Smith, A. MeLeod. A. Pillenger, *W. Clarke, liegan, IT-. .Nightingale, and Brnithwnite. The contingent received a very cordial send-off from the people Of Onehun°a. The wharf was packed with spectators; and loud cheers were given for the deporting soldiers. The Onehungn-ites were especially interested in the departure of the detachment inasmuch as three of the troopers —Bray, Smith, and MeLeod — were residents of that district. The local brass band, under Bandmaster Cooke. was present, and played a selection of appropriate and patriotic airs. Amongst (hose who were present to farewell (he men were ('apt. Me In tosh, of the Onehimgn Rifles,, and several members of the Borough Council. Lieut. Potter acted as embarkation officer and «aw to the shipping of men and horses.
