OTHER PRECAUTIONS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day

The New Zealand Government's suggestion respecting the examination of passengers and shipping from Victoria to these waters having been adopted by that colony, our Government will not, it is understood, take any further action against vessels arriving here from Victoria, unless the plague makes its appearance in that country. Up to the present time about 500 packets of rat poison have been distributed by the City Council in response to applications from householders.

The Council has so far only been called on to pay its promised premium of one penny -per head on 48 rats left at the Corporation yards.
