EMOVAL OF GARBAGE.
(To the Hlditor.)
Sir,—At the present time I hear a good deal of grumbling at the unsatisfactory state of the new dust contract entered into by the city on behalf of the householders. We understand that the contract price was _Jd (three farthings) per foot, but we find on making application at the contractor's office that we have to go on their books at 3/ per quarter, which means about threepence per week. A good number of small houses might have,, say a kerosene tinful (under a cubit foot) once a week. But when it comes to paying threepence a week, they simply don't send it, when it is left to fester in the back yard. But if it was anything near the contract price the most of the people would take advantage of the dust cart at this time. It seems rather strange that the closet contract can be paid every week, and not the dust contract as well. Hoping to draw some information on the matter, I am, etc., HOUSEHOLDER.
