CONCERT AT MERCER.

A concert was given in the Garrick Hall, Mercer, on Friday evening under the management of Mr C. T. Edwards, who also furnished some good limelight effects. Mr S. Hunter presided, and congratulated those present upon attending a patriotic concert in such large numbers. An orchestra performed a couple of selections, and a tramp delivered a speech on "Country Life." "The Outlaw" was recited by Air S. Hunter, and "The Absent-minded Beggar" by Mr Dawson, over £3 being thrown on the stage. Phonographic selections were given by Mr Elliott. Songs were contributed as follows: —Miss Crocker, "The Island of Dreams" and "The Little Hero"; Miss A. Sergeant, "Soldiers of the Queen"; Miss Sergeant. "Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean"; Miss M. Elliott, "As Your Hair Grows Whiter"; Mrs Donaldson, "Juanita" and "I was Dreaming"; Air Spencer, "The Deep Blue Sea"; Mr Rowley, "The Dandy Coloured Coon" and "Our Happy Little Home"; Mr A. Craig, "Jim the Plumber"; Mr Dean, "Sons of the Sea" and "Sons of the Empire"; Mr Mclvor, "I'm Getting Ready for My Mother-in-law." The last item on the programme, "Rule Britannia" and "God Save the Queen" brought everyone to their feet. As a result of the entertainment something over nine pounds will be handed over to the Patriotic Fund.
