Lewis submitted the following resolution, which was carried unanimously and enthusiastically:—(l) The Conference rejoices in the patriotic feeling- that has been expressed by New Zealand in connection with the war in South Africa, at the heroism shown by her contingents, and the liberal response of the colony to the appeal for funds, and especially to that on behalf of those isuffering- from the struggle. It affirms its belief that Great Britain had no alternative but to draw the sword on behalf of our oppressed fellow subjects in the Transvaal, as well as to' maintain the rights of the Crown, and while praying that the complete and decisive victory of our forces may soon end the bloodshed, is thankful that the evil has beep so far over-ruled for good in the Intense loyalty to the throne, and the closer union of all parts of the EmROUGH RIDERS- FUND.
