NEW ZEALAND CONTINGENTS.

The men of the Fifth Contingent in -amp at Potter's Paddock, Epsom, are mproving in their drill daily. Lieuts. Bosworth and Potter and Sergt.-Major Mcintosh arc busy giving them instruction in squad drill, the manual of .inns, firing- exercise, etc. Yesterday ibout forty men went, through their diooiing- tests on the Ml. Eden Rifle Uange, under the supervision of Capt. Reid. Yesterday afternoon the Contingent was very hospitably entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies of Parnell at Mrs Chamberlain's resiIcncc in Gladstone Road. The Contingent, marched iv from Epsom under their officers, and were pleasantly .received and were provided with refreshments. A string- band played musical selections on the lawn during- the. afternoon. His Excellency the Governor. Lord Ranfurly. accompanied by Lady Ranfurly, arrived about 4.30 p.m.. and were received by the hostess and the officers of the Contingent. Before returning to camp the men heartily cheered the Parnell ladies. .Mrs lb-own, assisted by the ladies of Onehunga, will give the Contingent a concert and supper in camp on Friday evening next. VYESLEYAX CONFERENCE RESOLUTION. At the morning session of the Wesleyan Conference the Rev. J. J. Lewis submitted the following resolution, which was carried unanimously and enthusiastically:—(l) The Conference rejoices in the patriotic feeling- that has been expressed by New Zealand in connection with the war in South Africa, at the heroism shown by her contingents, and the liberal response of the colony to the appeal for funds, and especially to that on behalf of those isuffering- from the struggle. It affirms its belief that Great Britain had no alternative but to draw the sword on behalf of our oppressed fellow subjects in the Transvaal, as well as to' maintain the rights of the Crown, and while praying that the complete and decisive victory of our forces may soon end the bloodshed, is thankful that the evil has beep so far over-ruled for good in the Intense loyalty to the throne, and the closer union of all parts of the EmROUGH RIDERS- FUND. Messrs Arthur M. -Myers and IT. T. Gorrie, Honorary Treasurers of the Rough Riders' Fund, beg- to acknowledge the following- .subscriptions: —A.
