AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A rieeting of the general committee of the Industrial Association was held on Monday evening last at the office of Mr J. H. Mackie, Secretary of the Association, No. 1 Dvn ham-street East. There was a fall- number of members present. Mr M. A. Clark. President, occupied the chair.
Several letters received from the Oai.terbu.ry Industrial Association more particularly related to the Canterbury Jubilee industrial Exhibition, to be opened in November next. The Exhibition Committee desired the Secretary of the Auckland Association to act as the Auckland representative for the committee, for the dissemination of particulars respecting tenders^ for
gas ,or electric lighting of the Exhibition buildings, for the distribution of prospectuses and circular:, to manufacturers and others, and for circulars to bodies likely to send members to enter for the musical competitions which it is proposed to arrange. It •was intimated that amplication for space forms would be forwarded at an early date.
Receipt was acknowledged of a supply of statistical literature supplied by the local branch of the Australasian ■Federation League. The President and Secretary were authorised" to deal with the question of appointment of canvasser to the Association.
Sundry accounts were papsed for payment. Two subjects upon the Agenda paper, viz., »1) Charges on New Zealand coals, and (2) Federation were further deferred for consideration at a future meeting. It was decided to furnish Mr G. H. Powley with a letter of introduction from the Association, on the eve of his departure from Auckland, on an extended trip to thet Mother Country and' America; and the members wished Mr Powley. a pleasant and prosperous journey. In repty, Mr Powley expressed his intention to carefully note any matters of interest to the Association, and convey same to the proper quarter. He hoped to in this way promote the welfare of the Association.
The.next meeting of the Committee will be held at an early date. Mention was made of the recent annual meetings of the Canterbury and Wellington Industrial Associations, reports of which showed them to be in quite flourishing circumstances, with good prospects of permanent success. The Canterbury Association was reported to be the largest shareholders in the new Industrial and Agricultural Hall, novy being erected Jj/their province, and which, when finished, will form the permanent portion of tlhe buildings of the Canterbury Jubilee Exhibition.
