VOLUNTEER NOTES.
The annual competition for the Kenrick Belt, presented by Captain Kenrick, and open to members of the Coronmnde] Rifle Volunteers, took place on Saturday, and was won by Private McCarthy, who was also successful in the same competition last year. The No. 2 Waikato Mounted Rifles on Saturday fired a match at Pirongia for the silver cup presented by Mr D. Ross. The ranges were 300, -400, and 500 yards. Volunteer F. Steele won the cup with a total of GG, Volunteer C. Grace being second with 02; Sergeant Mills third, and Volunteer Kay fourth.
EASTER ENCAMPMENTS
Circulars are being issued by the Defence Department to-day to officers commanding the various districts throughout the colony, concerning the Easter encampment for volunteers. Encampments are to be held for seven days. The combined camp for the Otago and Canterbury forces is to be held in the vicinity of either Timaru or Oamaru. The Wellington camp is to be pitched at Lower Hutt, at the centre of the district, which will include Wanganui, Hawke's Bay. and Nelson. The Auckland camp will practice defence from a western position. The mounted rifle corps are to remain in camp for seven days, so as to complete their camp terms as specified under the Act.
