THE OPERA HOUSE
The theatrophone and kinemiat^ograph entertainment last night at the Opera House did not attract such a large audience as might have been expected, probably owing to the weather. The programme, which included vocal and instrumental selections fr<?m the, theatrophone, and animated pictures of varied kinds by the kinematograpli, was an excellent one throughout, and well deserves patronage. Tfle exhibitors were unable, through no fault of theirs, to show tlie promised pictures of the Contingent, but showed one negative of the Contingent's departure, which had a very peculiar effect. Chief among the animated scenes were the "Opening ol the Auckland Exhibition," "American War Scenes" and "Canoe Hurdle Race," which were the best of an excellent selection. Among the theatrophone (which is a great improvement on the old phonograph) selections a splendid "Columbian Exposition" march should commend itself to local bands, while "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep" and selections from the 'Bohemian Girl" were also excellent. Mr Keid in "Our Sons Across the. Sea," and the übiquitous "Absent-Minded Beggar" was heard to splendid advantage, and received an encore. The sum of 10/0 was thrown on the stage. Mr Potter was successful in "Break the. News to Mother." The entertainment will be'repeated to-night,
