Several defended cases were heard at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon.

A Surveyor's Claim. —The capes John J. Phillips v. Assets Realisation Board (claim ,£2O. and John J. Phillips v. Bank of New Zealand (claim .cm 10/-) for materials furnished and survey work and labour, were heard together. The question in each case was the amount which should be charged for the work. Mr Baume appeared for the plaintiff, and .Messrs Cotter and Hanna for the defendants. The Assets Board had paid £5 15/----into court. After hearing evidence His Worship gave judgment for the defendant Board, for the balance of the claim, with costs to be fixed ; and against the Bank for ft 13 17/-, les £11 15/- paid into eourf.

Building Dispute.—Frederick Johnson v. J. W. Dickens, claim £5 7/- for work done to defendant three houses recently erected in Ponsonby. Mr Burton' for plaintiff, Mr Battley for defendant. His Worship gave 'judgment for plaintiff for £2 0/3, with costs £2 11/-.

Board and Lodging.—Catherine Annie Gentles v. Walter A. White, claim £3 4/- for board and lodging. Mr Parr appeared for plaintiff. Judgment was given for amount claimed, with costs £1 12/-.
