The contingent will" comprise at least 300 men, of which the Otago and Southland sections will form part. The'lmperial Government was cabled to -yesterday, and asked to forward a transport ship.

Major Jowsey will probably assume charge of the camp on Monday or Tuesday. ;.' , . If is thought that the following lieutenants will be chosen: — First lieutenant, Captain Louis Bourn, adjutant of the South Canterbury Battalion; second lieutenant, Montague Lewin, formerly of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, but now of the "E" Battery, Christehurch; and third lieutenant, Frederick George Tucker, of the Ashburton Guards. It is thought that Acting-Sergeant Rose, an ex-captain of the Lyttelton Navals, and for several years a member of the ?Oantertmry 'Yeomanry Cavalry, will be made sergeant-major. Fully 50Q0 people visited the camp :on Sunday •afternoon, although there was no. work going on, and most of the men .were on leave. • A large collection in aid of ihe Canterbury war fund was taken at the gate, but has not j*et been counted. It will probably amount to between £50 and £60. Some 20 or 30 young ladies who sold red-white-and-blue ribbons at the principal city corners, brought in £155 13/8 iii aid of the Canterbury. i •war fund;

•A well-attended meeting- ,pf subscribers to the patriotic fund resolved to devote the money, less : a small amount subscribed for specific objects, to the more men fund. Oyer 20 men have offered their services, and many will, find-their own horses. . . A. meeting of delegates from all parts of the provincial.district is to be ield on Monday to discuss the sending of a Taranaki contingent. .
