FIRST WAIKATO SHEEP FAIR.
Messrs McNicol and-.Co, held their first sheep fair of the season at Ohaupo on Wednesday. About -20,000 sheep, mostly of good class were y^ e|' r^| nearly everything was cleared Pi ices ruled lower than.was generally anticipated, owing to the scarcity of teed and the prospect.'of a continuance of the present dry weather. Farmers appeared, to be disinclined to incur the risk of a drop on account of insufficiency of food. Prices, however, were on a par with those realised at the ■opening fair' last year. Two-tooth ewes Avere eagerly sought for■. and they showed an upward tendency, older sheep declined somewhat and. fat sheep which were scarce sold well; but the prices for this class remained unaltered. Two-tooth ewes sold up to 11/6; fat •wethers reached 10/; lambs from 3/6 to 6/7; cross-bred ewes and wethers up to 9/. .The.top .price was' obtained.by Mr C, J. Storey, who sold 50 two-tooth Lincoln ewes at 12/9, and got 11/6 for his lorigwools.' MrJ. V.. Ellis, of. the King Country, was about the largest buyer; and Mr Hine'sline of 2000 "Napier, sheep was secured by him at;.'9/6.--;..Mr A. J. Storey, bought llOOin-one line at-8/1, and Mr J.. Anderson 500 of the N.Z.T.V. Land Company's sheep at 5/. At the conclusion of the sale a ram. fair was held, at* which »a large number of well-bred animals were .offered and sold at satisfactory, prices. Liricolris. we're chiefly yarded. .
