ELECTION NOTES.
OTAKI
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day
The by-election in Otaki is almost certain to be a straight out contest between Mr W. 11. Field, brother of the deceased member, and Mr Morrison, the former being assured of Govern* ment support, having the best chance of election. It is said to have been the last -wish of the deceased that he should be succeeded by his brother. Mr Kennedy Macdonald was mentioned as a: probable candidate, but, besides being an intimate friend of deceased, he -would not stand against a Government candidate. Mr Jellicoe is unde, cided, but his decision is almost certain to be in the negative. The writ will be issued on Saturday.
