A four-roomed house in Wliitemans Valley, Hutt district, occupied by Wm. Johnston was burned, last night; An infant six months old perished in the flames.. . .'..«.- '•

The mother left the infant in the house while she went out to drive. -There-was a fire burning in the kiteheh.'.and iris supposed a, flake fell out, and the house being old was instantly wrapped in flames. The body was found burned to a cinder.
