INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the general committee of the above Association, was held at the secretary's rooms, No. 1 Durhamstreet East, last evening (Tuesday). There were present: Mr M. A. Clark (president), in the chair, aud Messrs A. C. Atkhi, A. C. Whitney, JnO. McCoskrie, Geo. PoWley, W.E. Hutchison, and S. M. Green. The absence of Messrs Graves Aickin and Chas. Ranson w!as accounted for. Several communications and some printed matter received from the Industrial Corporation of New Zealand was read and ordered to be acknowledged. The secretory was instructed to draw the attention of the president of the Corporation to certain provisions in the Arbitration Courts' finding, with a view to securing an absolute and final opinion as to the legality of its enforcement.

The Colonial Secretary wrote advising- that the Association had been registered under the Industrial Societies Act, 1883.

It was resolved that copies of the labour laws of New Zealand be procured, and that arrangements be made for subscribing to the Labour Journal.

In response to application made, the Industrial Corporation" stated that copies of statistics relating to the industrial. trade of the various colonies, such as would be affected by Federation, would soon be available, and would be forwarded on. The president explained that as sooh as these particulars came to hand the question of Federation and its bearing upon New Zealand industries would come up for discussion by the committee.

Mr A. C. Whitney thought the Association should make inquiries into the question of the cost of New Zealand coals, and railway freights on same, with a, view to brjnging about the more general use of these coals, •in place of the imported article. It was resolved that the question should be revived at the next meeting of the committee.

Mr J. H. Maekie stated that he had prepared a complete list of manufacturers a.nd others engaged in Atickland industries with a view to a thorough canvass being made of,the whole tovyn and Suburbs, so that'every representative industry should become connected with the Association.
