NEWTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The Newton Schools Committee met Monday evening. There Were present: Messrs J. Rosser (chairman), G. Knight (treasurer), J. D. Gow, J. Peak, W. Morgan, J. Jenkin, D. D. Brig-ham and F. Crespin.
Mr Webber informed the Commi.te. that boys continued trespassing- on the school ground after school hours, damaging the school property and in other ways causing annoyance. On Sunday, November 5, a gang of boys was on the ground, the school was entered, and cupboards ransacked, and damage done. The case is now in the hands of the police and no doubt theoffenders will have to answer for their misdoings. -
The Board of Education informed the Committee in reply to a letter asking when tenders would be invited for the erection of the school building in the Eden Terrace district that the arrangements for leasing the site on the New North Road from the Grammar School Board had not yet been completed. Mr Rosser (chairman) was deputed to interview the Board with reference to the matter.
Touching reference was made by the members of the Committee with regard to the recent death of Mr T. 11. Martyn, who for many years was a member of the Committee and always displayed an active and intelligent interest in educational matters, and in the welfare of the schools in the Newton' district, and in accordance with resolution unanimously passed the Chairman (Mr Rosser) will, on behalf of the Committee forward a letter of condolence to Mrs Martyn and family, expressing the Committee's sympathy with them in their sad bereavement.
