WELLINGTON IMPROVEMENTS.

WELLINGTON, this day,
The City Council decided in preference to Avidening Adelaide Road, Avhich is the main artery of South Wellington, to cut a neAv 60ft street parallel with it at a cost of £9000. The Mayor said to make the scheme perfect he Avould have liked to buy land abutting-, but the expense, £30,----000, Avas beyond the city's means. The Council also has other schemes on hand for taking land and Avidening narroAv thoroughfares. It Avas decided to oppose a Bill in Parliament AA'ith reference to the maintenance of the Hiitt Road, on the ground that there is eA'idently a desire by local bodies outside to saddle the city with the lion's share of the cost.
