KITCHEN GARDEN
We are experiencing splendid weather for this time of the year, and there seems every prospect of it continuing for a few days longer, ll is then to be hoped we will receive some warm rains. Although the weather has been good there is not so much growth as could have been wished, still if warm rainy weather sets in things Avill come away with a rush. Continue manuring and digging vacant pieces of ground, so as to have them ready for later cropping.
Potatoes: Early crops well through the soil, see that the soil is well broken up with the fork between the rows. Continue planting intermediate crops accordiug to requirements.
Peas: Earth up growing crops and continue sovying for succession. The sowings should be made whenever the preceding- sOAving makes its appearance- through the soil. Dwarf varieties are the best to soav Avhcrc it is difficult to procure stakes.
Onions: If the main spring crops are not already sown they should be sown at once, for if delayed much longer they will not produce such large btiilbs. Autumn sown onions keep free of weeds, and keep the soil free and loose between the rows, and when large enough to handle lift and dibble out, so as to extend the crop. Cabbage and cauliflower: Plant out a few more rows, those advancing in growth pack betAveen the rows and earth up as they require it. Sow another small patch of seed. Clear aAvay the debris of spent crops as soou as the heads are cut.
Carrots and turnips: Make another sowing, especially of turnips, to keep up a succession of tender, juicy bulbs.
.Make succcssional soAvings of mustard, cress, and radishes. Letjtuee: Soav a small pinch of seed, and prick out a few more plants into rich, Avell-manured soil. Thin out seedling crops as they advance in groAvth, and see that, the soil is thoroughly well cultivated between the rows.
