THE WAIHI BOROUGH MEETING.

A largely attended meeting of the Waihi Improvement Committee was held in the Sterling- Hotel on Monday evening last, Mr J. L. Stevens pre-

siding1.

Telegrams were read from the valuer-general stating that the new valuation was authorised, and from the supervising valuer, stating that the work would be proceeded with if the promoters lodged the sum of ,-£SO in the public account to pay for the same.

Mr Taylor proposed, and Mr Colebrook seconded: "That, as the guarantors are willing to pay at once the amount promised by the them, Mr Flett be appointed treasurer to receive the same." The resolution was carried unanimously, and <i considerable amount of the money was paid on the spot.

The secretary announced that since the last meeting Messrs W. H. Johnston, G. Chandler, R. Cannel, and Jos. Tanner had consented «to act on the committee.

On the motion of Mr Simms, seconded by Mr Steven, the secretary was instructed to authorise Messrs Hazard and Johnston to proceed with the map of the proposed borough.

It was resolved on the motion of Mr Benge, seconded by Mr Flett: "That a public meeting be held in the Miners' Union Hall on Tuesday evening next to lay the whole matther before the public for their approval."

The secretary was instructed to contradict certain statements made in, a local paper in reference to an alleged meeting of this committee at which a resolution was passed re drainage of mines, and to state that no such meeting had taken place, and no such resolution had been thoiight of. The committee adjourned till Monday next at the Rob Roy Hotel.
