NEW PLYMOUTH. At a meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Liberal Federation, ballot papers were opened, when it was found that Mr E. M. Smith had polled an absolute majority over Mr J. B. Connett and Mr E. Dochrill, and thus became the Liberal candidate for the New Plymouth seat at the general election. WELLINGTON SUBURBS. The campaign in the Wellington Suburbs was opened hist night, when Mr R. C. Kirk addressed the electors at Petone. He said he was standing in the Government interests, but explained that lie had not. so far been selected as the Government candidate. lie would give the Government fair, but not slavish, support. He received a vote; of thanks and confidence. THE MASTERTON SEAT. MASTERTON, this day. The Rev. L. M. Lsitt has decided not to stand for Mastertori at the general election.
