Paul Beaver, of Devonport., dentist. —Plaintiff claimed 15/ for curing pork and beef, paperhanging and washing done at 3/ per day at defendant's farm at Albany.—Mr Brookfield appeared for plaintiff, Dr. Laishley for defendant, who was not present-, but his wife appeared.— Plaintiff deposed to doing the work in the statement of claim. In cross-ex-amination she said that she and her husband lived in a houseondefendant's ground and they paid no rent. They took charge of defendant's land, and kept- would-be diggers off.—Mr Logan gave evidence in support of his wife's claim. Witness said he acted as ranger for defendant to keep other gum diggers off the land. He was allowed to dig cum himself and sell it. In crossexamination witness said that Beaver would have paid him for the claim of £4 18/ that he was bringing ngainst him, but witness would not take 5/ per day. Beaver had never given him anything for his work except two bottles of beer on a recent Sunday when he wanted to talk and "square" the case.—At this stage, on the application of Dr. Laishley, further evidence was adjourned until the 21st hist., to enable Beaver to be present.
