KING'S COLLEGE. ENTERTAINMENT.

Every seat in the Opera House was occupied last evening-, when, a private dramatic entertainment was given by the pupils of King's College in aid of the funds of the Cadet Corps. The programme opened with exhibition drill by the Cadet Coips, who went through the manual and firing exercises, physical drill, bayonet exercise, forming square and marching in a manner that would have done credit to any corps. The various movements were carried out with admirable precision, while the musical inarch was particularly well executed. After songs by Madame Chambers, Mr Cecil Banks and Mr George Reid, scenes from "Julius Caesar" were produced, the boys being assisted by Miss K. Lennox and several of the masters. The piece was well mounted and the boys gave evidence of careful coaching, most of them speaking their linea clearly and with a certain amount of dramatic effect. The procession scene in the first act was particularly well staged, and the grouping and marching were very effective. The leading parts were all satisfactorily filled, and the play, to judge from the applause, was greatly appreciated by the audience. Mr Graham Bruce was Cassius; Mr C. T. Major, Marc Antony; Mr G. Bigg-Wither, Brutus; while the part of Julius Caesar was taken by T. Keid, and that of Casca by Mr C. Boult, both acting very creditably. Miss K. Lennox looked well as Calphurnia, and V. Bagnall (Decius), and H. Morpeth (Lucius) were both very fair. The scenes produced were: Scenes 1, 2, and 3 of Act I.; Scenes 1 and 2 of Act II.; I and Scenes 1, 2 and 3 of Act 111. Herr I Vennermark was responsible for the scenery, and Mr Eagleton. for the dressing, while the limelight was under the charge of Mr C. Mackie. Miss Thorpe accompanied the vocalists and an orchestra under the conductorship of Mr A. Eady played a number of selections during the evening.
