A short time ago a petition to hate the borough divided into wards signed by many of the burgesses was forwarded to Wellington to be presented to Parliament by Mr E. Thompson, M.H.R. We received news that the prayer had been granted, and the division, which is to consist of three wards, is now gazetted.
Considerable satisfaction is expressed by the settlers and townspeople on" learning that out of the million loan proposed to be obtained, an amount is to be allocated for the purpose of extending the present terminus^of the railway to deep water. It is a^ticipated that'this extension will.bejofi-con-siderable value to the town and. district.
A representative team of footballers left here to play yesterday and are to1: meet a Bay of Islands representative team at Kaikohe to-day (Saturday),when it is expected our boys will giv« s a good account of themselves.
