(From Our Own Correspondent) "CHILPERIC." On Thursday apd Friday evenings at the Caledonian Hall, Coromandel, a performance of the comic opera "Chilperic" was given to a crowded audience on both occasions notwith- f standing the very wet weather pre- f vailing. The piece was capitally per- ", formed, it being the first attempt ttfi produce a comic opera by amateur* j here. The characters were all WWI * f sustained. Mr C. R. Walker in the title role was immensely pleasing, his j singing of the solos "Oh Rarest Sport" ,and "A Butterfly Lived" was very good, and his acting was all that could be desired. As Tredegondia L Miss L. Handle was, a great succesß the part suited her altogether, and: was made the most of. She sang attd acted well, having to respond to several enthusiastic encores. MiSi Barlow, who looked %yell, did full, justice to the part of Brunehaut, « being admirably suited to her. Gals* j iwinda, as essayed by Miss Harrison; 'was a highly creditable performance. ! She sang well and received an encore. Landry as taken by Mr Murphy lof Auckland, left nothing to be desired. He was heard to advantage jtti : the tenor solos "Only Once More" and "With Jest and Song." As Fat6u|: Mr Robbins was a great success. The parts of Dr. Senna and Divitiacus by IMr Mair were well sustained. Hfr singing in the Druids scene "whs : splendid. Mr Williamson as Siebett,; !Mr Cruickshank as Don Nervoso, and I Alfred by Mr Fred. Home were alt j creditably rendered. A feature of the I performance was a cachuca danced by, six ladies. The choruses were all welH sung. The dresses were magnificent, and the staging effects added much to the beauty of the scene. The operetta was produced under the directorship of Miss Emily Reeve, of Auckland, to whom the credit of such a successful production is largely due. She was ably assisted by Ml* , jMellars (piano), Miss Tattley, Miss Archer, Mr J. James (violins). MrWv French (cornet), and Mr W. Km? (clarionette). Mr A. F. Billing was stage manager, and under his charge everything went on without a hitch. Job lines.
