Mr Bollard is to ask the Minister for railways if he will erect a. goods shed and improve the platform accommodation at the Waikumete railway station.

Mr Herries has given notice to ask the Postmaaster-General (1) whether in the case of four contractors for the conveyance of inland mails the incoming contractor is obliged to take over the plant of the outgoing contractor at a valuation; (2) if so will he either give other.contractors the same privilege or abolish the privilege altogether. Mr Herries will ask the Acting-Min-ister of Lands when the Government intends to erect baths at Tokaanu.

Mr Gilfedder intends to ask the Minister of Mines whether the Governwent will consider the advisableness of offering scholarships to pupils attending the public schools in mining .liatriets to enable them to prosecnte their studies at the Schools of Mines.

Mr R. Thompson will ask the Government whether they will make inquiries as to the necessity of providing accommodation for holding- sittings of the Police Court at Hikurangi, the Court being- at present in the constables dwellinghouse.

PROBABLE END OF THE SESSION.

It is reported that pressure is being brought to bear on the Government to close the session at.the earliest possible date. Yesterday when several members objected to the Government taking Wednesday for business the Premier reminded them that some of the electorates were being invaded by new candidates seeking to steal a march on the sitting members. The Opposition, however, appear in no hurry to close the session. The most reliable tip so far is that the session will last until the end of the first week in October.

REPLY TO CAPTAIN RUSSELL. The Colonial Secretary left for Patea this morning to deliver a political address in reply to Captain Russell.
