WELLINGTON, Saturday evening.

In the Rugby matches this afternoon, Petone beat Wellington by 11 to 6. Hardham scored a try in the first spell for the winners, and in the second half Hard!ham and McGill scored tries for Petone, and Hawke converted the latter. For Wellington in the second spell Bird and Bonar regis* tered tries. Wellington played a great game in the scond half. Hawke was badly hurt 20 minutes before the end of the game.

Oriental beat Poneke by 8 points to nil, Freith and Barclay scoring tries, and the latter's being converted. The weatlher is magninoent,but the ground greasy.

In the senior championships, the match Melrose v. Athletics resulted in a draw, no score being registered on either side.

The second round opened with the match of the year, Alhambra v. Kaikorai, which was played before fully 4000 spectators in lovely weather.From first to last Alhambras outclassed Kaikorai in the forwards, and had it not been for the sound defence of the blue and black's backs Alhambra must have won with plenty to spare. Kaikorai only had one look in, and from that scored a try after a brilliant piece of passing. Alhambra kicked a penalty goal, tine game thus ending in a draw. Dunedin beat Union by 3 to nil; and Southern beat University by 6 to nil, both these wins creating much surprise. Zingari and Pirates played a drawn game, no score on either side.

Points for the championship now stand; Kaikorai, E4; Alhambra, 22; Dunedin, 10; Southern, 9.

CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday.

In the senior football matches today, Kaiapoi beat Merivale by 8 points to 7; Christchurch beat Albion by 14 points to 8; and Linwood beat Sydenham by 17 points to nil.
