MAJOR WHITE WINS THE CHAM-
PION AGGREGATE,
• The 25th annual competition of the Auckland Rifle Association was resumed on Saturday, March 18, at the Akarana Rifle Club's range, Avondale. A start was made with the Champion Aggregate Match, seven shots at 700 yds, open to the 20 highest scorers in the three matches of the previous day. The match was won by Gunner Willis, of the Ponsonby Nayals, who scored 32 out,of a possible 35. The winner's previous best performance was a win in the Nursery Match last year, with a score of 46 out of ™- His score on Saturday read: 5554544. ™ < J t ackson came second, and ActingMajor White third, three points behind the winner. Tq decide the winner of the grand aggregate trophy the scores in the champion match were added to the totals of the previous day. Acting-Major White whose score on Friday was 222, gained the trophy with a total of 251, leading the second man,; Corporal Carlson, by 31 points.. - *v. •. ■ , The. Nursery Match, five shots at 400 and 500 yards, was commenced at 4 p m Nineteen entered for this match, several entries being received on the ground Corporal Phillips, of the No. 2 Natives Bines, proved the winner with a score of 44 out of a possible 50. Private Strange of the Te Aroha Rifles, put on the possible (25) at 400 yds, but only scored 14 at the longer range. The match was won last year by Gunner Willis with a score of 46.
Twenty-one entered ;for the Tyro Handicap, which conclndteVJ the day's shooting. The handicaps were sealed, and left unopened until the conruusirm of the shooting. C.P.O. Jackson, of the Auck-
land Navals, who Was placed scratch, won the match with a total of 44 out of a possible 50, making 23 at 200 yds, and 21 at 300.
The good shooting wh'e.h rr«irki»-1 the meeting was a tribute to the quality of the Colonial Ammunition Company's ammunition, which Was used both for the .303 and the Martini-Henry rifles. The cordite ammunition for1 the former weapon was the first of colonial manufacture yet used in the .colony. Scores in. the various matches'follow:—
