THE AUCKLAND CONTINGENT.
News was still being awaited during to-day regarding the proposed despatch of an armed force from Auckland for Samoa, and the Government steamer Tutanekai is still lying at the Railway Wharf. The 'Defence authorities here received an offer from Major Gordon, officer in command of the Canterbury district, offering the services of several good officers as supplementary to the Auckland force. The proffered services were, however, not required.
