A SETTLEMENT EXPECTED,
'. ■ ■■ WASHIN(|rON, April 4. The officials here are §anguine that the Commissioners will satisfactorily settle the Samoan difficulty. SYDNEY, April 4. The military authorities hold to .the opinion that it is unlikely the New Zealand offer will be accepted. Germany would probably object to its acceptance, as an interference with the tripartite control. One high official states that there are plenty of warships to spare, and it is unlikely that soldiers will be sent to Samoa. SYDNEY, this day. The 'Daily Telegraph' says New Zealand's offer of troops for Samoa repeats the keynote first, sounded by New South Wales in the despatch of the Soudan Contingent, and lets the world know emphatically that tnere are in these k communities reserves of armed force of the best fighting breed in the world prepared to tight for the possessions under the flag of the Empire. The only difference is that on the present occasion the broad entry of the human element into the question is writ larger than it was a decade back.
