ELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN.
MR B. HOBBS RE-ELECTED.
At the meeting of the Auckland Board of Education to-day the annual election of chairman took place. Mr R. Farrell moved and Mr.J. R. Reed seconded that Mr R Hobbs, the present chairman, be re-elected for the ensuing year, the nominators saying that Mr Hobbs had filled the position most satisfactorily during the past year, and that a better chairman could not be found. Mr W. Leys proposed as an amendment that Mr James Muir be elected chairman of the Bodfd for the ensuing year. He referred to Mr Muir's wide experience and long service, which qualified him for the position of chairman. Dr. McArthur seconded Mr Leys' motion, and said he considered, without any disparagement of Mr.HobbS, that the position of chairman should go round. Mr J. Muir thanked Mr Leys and Dr. McArthur, but said he could not accept nomination. He said he would rather not have the position, because his views on finance and other matters did not agree with those of the majority of the Board. If he were elected he could not work harmoniously with the majority. For one thing, he did not like the manner In which appointments were made. He liked impartiality, but apparently some ot the members of the Board did not. The amendment was then withdrawn, and Mr Hobbs was unanimously re-elect-ed chairman, and thanked the members for again placing him in that position.
