So far as I can learn the riders of the leading horses in the Easter Handicap on Monday are as follows: — Douglas, Noble; Rex, J. Sceats; Waiorongomai, M. Ryan; Red Lancer, T. Taylor; Battleaxe, J. Creamer; Admiral Hawke, J. Gallagher; Coronet, Julian. I hear it is proposed to blister Fabulist all round and send him to Hamilton for the winter period.
Mr G. P. Donnelly, owner of Douglas and Oingo, will arrive from Napier to-morrow, accompanied by Mrs Donnelly and daughter, to be present at the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting. Nominations for all events of the Avondale Jockey Club Autumn Meeting will close at the Club's Office, High-street, on Friday, 7th April, by 9 p.m. The second day of the Auckland Trotting Club Autumn Meeting takes place at Epsom on Wednesday next. Handicaps are due on Monday, and acceptances close with Mr C. F. Mark, Durham-street, at 10 p.m. on the same day. At a meeting of the Committee of the South Auckland Racing Club the Secretary presented an interim statement in connection with the recent race meeting, showing a satisfactory balance. • , A new private box has been constructed on the main grandstand at Ellerslie for the use of His Excellency the Governor and party at racemeetings. It is expected that Lord Ranf urly will be present at the A.K.U Meeting on Monday. . ■ Of the Easter Handicap horses trained at Ellerslie Rex has done the best WThe hurdler Cairo was brought up to Auckland yesterday in- the s.s. Gaar--10 The well-known local racehorse Archduke (by the Dauphin-Duchess) was shipped to Fiji during the present week.
■ At the end of last week negotiations were completed for the purchase of the West Coast gelding Splinter, and he was brought up here this week by W. Smith. The name of the new owner of the Natator gelding is the Ellerslie trainer, F. McManemin, and it is at his training establishment that he is located. Splinter is looking light just noWj but he is a fine cut of a horse, and possesses plenty of. bone. The full programme of the Takapuna Jockey Club Winter Meeting, to be held on May 20 and 24, appears in our business Columns this evening. A total of £1230 will be given in added' money on the two days. Included in the programme is the Birthday Handicap of 150 soys, 1\ miles, First Hurdle Race of 100 soys, two miles, Royal Handicap of 100 soys, five furlongs, Britannia. Handicap of 125 soys, one mile, Victoria Handicap of 100 soys, six furlongs, and Steeplechase of 150 soys, about 3J miles. Nominations for all fourteen races on the two days' programme are due with Mr R. Wynyard on Friday, April 21, by 9 p.m.
