At the Onehunga Police Court this morning, before Messrs Wilding and Jackson, Mrs Pauline King was charged with using indecent language in Queen and Cardwell streets, Onehunga, about one o'clock on Sunday morning, March 12th. The defendant pleaded guilty. Evidence was, given by Sergeant Greene and others sjiowing that the language was of avery1 bad character. Defendant- said she had ten children, the youngest being under two years of. age. The Bench expressed their unwillingness to send defendant to gaol, and therefore ordered her to, come up for sentence this day four weeks, when the judgment Would depend upon her conduct in the interim.
A meeting of the Works and Tariff Committee of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. W. J. Napier presiding. ,It was recommonded that;the tender of Mr J. White for repair to wharves and" jetties be accepted for one year, and that fresh tenders be invited for construction of a punt for the new Priestman di'edger. It was recommended that Mr A. B. Woolf be allowed to lay down 50 feet of patent asphalt on Queen street Wharf at his own expense, and if the experiment proved successful- the Board to refund the cost. The committee recommended that permission be given to the Premier Joinery Co .to erect a wharf off the Freezing Co.'s reclamation at a rental at the rate of i£7 per annum, subject to six months' notice of removal at any time. Consideration of steamer for pilot service was deferred pending, further inquiries. The question of berthage accommodation for deep sea ships at the wharves was deferred until next meeting of the committee.
Mr W. H. Webbe's 87th open evening for visitors was given last evening. A. varied musical programme was ccn : tributed to by Misses L. Thompson, S. Lewis, M. Webbe, Qarlick, Lambourne, and Spooner, and Messrs A. L. Edwards, E. Walton, and Webbe. Before the final item, Mr Webbe, after giving a brief, speech with reference to the; utility of examinations, presented the certificates awarded by the Trinity College, London, to the twelve successful candidates at the last local theoretical examination.
