GREY MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

Grey Memorial Committee MMM A meeting o f the above committee was held at the Mimiepial Buildings last evening, Mr S. J. Nathan presiding.. There was a good attendance, and much enthusiasm shown at the progress of affairs. Taingakawa, the Maori Premier, wrote a characteristic letter, regretting that he could not be present at the demonstration held on February JSth to pay homage to the memory of the good veteran, Sir George Grey. A sub-committee, consisting of Hon. Mr Jennings, Messrs Farrell, Beehan, anrl Fawcus, were appointed to see if Arrangements could be made about a moonlight excursion, sub-committee to report at next meeting. Mr McDermott reported on behalf oil the sub-committee appointed to carry out the concert (Dr. King, Messrs Regan, McLeod, Mewburn, and .T. Mitchell) that he had seen the Mayor as to whether an answer had been received from His Excellency the Governor. As soon as the reply came, the sub-committee would fix the date of the concert definitely. Mr Mitchell stated he and Mr Lcydon had tried the .record cylinder of Sir George Grey's message to the-people of Auckland, but they only used the tubes. They found the record in perfect good order, and Mr Leydon's phonograph acted perfectly. They would try the phonograph with one of the large funnels, and he believed the result would be successful.

The hon. secretary (Mr W. T. Jennings) stated that the result of the Exhibition proceeds would be close on £50. He also was glad to say Ihe listn circulated (200) were being returned with fair amounts on them. Hf. had seen four lists which contained just on £25; and he thought that when the whole of the lists came in a very good amount would be realised. It was thought that the lists should remain open until the end of the month at least. The hon. treasurer (Mr S rf .T. Nathan) said a prepared list of subscribers would be published this week, as all amounts promised and collected would be completed. He thought that all who have taken an interest in the matter would be pleased to see Hint matters have progressed very satisfactorily.. The meeting then adjourned until Monday next, at the same place and hour.

A few months since the following ] advertisement appeared in the Dunedin papers in connection with the Dunedin Branch of the London Dental i Institute:—: From and after this date : we will make a present of the sum of five hundred pounds sterling (£500) to the Dunedin Hospital if it be proved that the teeth used in the manufacture of our £3 3/ sets are not the best obtainable in this or any other market in the world.
